Call for Papers: Representation vs. (In)visibility: Queer Realities in Contemporary Literature

18-02-2024

The FemCritica Journal is pleased to announce the opening of the call for academic articles for our upcoming special issue titled "Representation vs. (In)visibility: Queer Realities in Contemporary Literature."

Context and Justification:

In the contemporary literary landscape, the representation of sexual and gender diversity has gained increasing importance. However, despite advances, challenges persist regarding the (in)visibility and accurate representation of queer experiences in literature. This special issue seeks to explore and analyze how queer realities are represented in contemporary literature, as well as the challenges faced by this representation in terms of visibility, stereotypes, and dominant narratives.

Themes of Interest:

Submitted articles may address a variety of topics related to queer realities in contemporary literature, including but not limited to:

  • Representation of queer identities in different literary genres.
  • (In)visibility of queer characters in contemporary literature.
  • Challenges and opportunities in the representation of sexual and gender diversity.
  • Analysis of literary works exploring queer themes.
  • Intersectionality of queer identities with other axes of oppression (race, class, etc.) in literature.
  • The role of literature in the construction of queer identities and the struggle for visibility.

Deadline:

The deadline for article submission is September 1, 2024. Articles must follow the style and format guidelines of the FemCritica Journal. Academics, researchers, and students are invited to contribute original works addressing the proposed themes.
